As the VSI Sustainability Committee moves forward with its work plan, it will continue to increase its focus on recycling as an issue.
During the first part of the year, revisions to the VSI sustainability section of the website included the addition of comprehensive information on how vinyl siding, polypropylene siding, and insulated vinyl siding can be recycled. It also included a focus on the importance of recycling as an issue as it relates to landfill diversion.
During the committee’s meeting later this month, a draft model recycling program will be reviewed and discussed. The committee will be focused on the creation of a resource that will be available for use by various parts of the industry.
As part of this process VSI with the help of the Vinyl Institute (VI), has been in touch with numerous recyclers across the country to gain their input and insights. VSI has been working closely with the VI on this topic to ensure it aligns with their V-cycle task group.
In addition to reviewing this model information, the committee will also discuss the feasibility and purpose of a 2021 pilot program on recycling. Finally, VSI has published several blogs on recycling over the past months.
