Continuing Developments Demonstrate Growing Impact of Vinyl Siding Recycling Initiative
More than two months after its official November 2024 launch, Revinylize Louisville is being heralded as “an emerging story of transformation and hope.” While it’s not the kind of traditional launch event one would envision – complete with ribbon cuttings, balloons and other festive accents – one would be amazed at the level of excitement produced by a simple blue collection bin adorned with a white “Revinylize” banner located at a typical home re-siding project site in Louisville, KY.

Instead of a pricey PR campaign, the lion’s share of the launch “budget” was used to fund a home-re-siding project for a worthwhile mission (New Leaf), with support from partners Westlake Royal Building Products and Mueller Distributors, that donated the vinyl siding for the project. Revinylize enlisted the support of a local contractor – American Exteriors, LLC – to complete the re-siding following the Revinylize standards and processes.
By spending these resources wisely, Revinylize leaders could demonstrate the remarkable simplicity of how well its recycling program works.

Revinylize Louisville is the latest addition to the Revinylize Recycling Collaborative’s growing program which aims to serve all of North America. Based on the buzz surrounding this launch, organizers believe this collaborative will continue to expand, especially since all participating recyclers will be verified through GreenCircle Certified, Revinylize’s third-party certification partner.
Having this verification sends a strong message to all stakeholders and the community at large that these post-consumer materials were not just being diverted from the landfills but recycled properly to allow for new product manufacturing.
Using installers who are VSI-certified is also highly preferred, since any good recycling initiative should complement other sustainability goals (in this case, ensuring that the home’s fuel efficiency is maximized through proper installation).
With local KY-recycler Lastique meeting this verification, the Revinylize Louisville re-siding project resulted in approximately 2,500 lbs. in post-consumer vinyl siding being reclaimed for making new polymeric home exterior products. It also generated a wellspring of positive publicity, including:
- Last December, the Polymeric Exterior Products Association (PEPA) was recognized with the 2024 Recycling Award from the Vinyl Sustainability Council (VSC) for their work in establishing Revinylize. The award was presented at the 2024 Vinyl Sustainability Summit in Louisville, on December 9, 2024.
- Plastics News provided solid coverage on the Revinylize Louisville launch with a December 20, 2024, article: “Vinyl Recycling and Second Chances.”
- PROBUILDER gave noticeable attention to Revinylize Louisville with its December 17, 2024, article, “Revinylize Recycling Initiative Brings Sustainable Solutions to Kentucky Community.”
- Waste Advantage magazine posted on December 27, 2024, “Revinylize Recycling Collaborative Brings Recycling, Sustainability and Hope to Louisville, KY.”
- Fox New’s Channel 4 affiliate in Kansas City also picked up the Revinylize Louisville press release, in addition to publicity from local media outlets in Louisville.
Continuing to Spread the Word

The Revinylize team is also gearing up for an official launch in Nashville, TN, this spring, and securing new commitments from other cities and regions following a promising start in 2024. Back in Louisville, the pieces are in place to attract more contractors, distributors and recycling interests who want to benefit from the Revinylize initiative.
This growth could not come at a better time as PEPA opens its membership to new categories of polymeric exterior product manufacturers, who will gravitate toward Revinylize with their shared desire to:
- RECLAIM post-consumer rigid vinyl building materials away from the landfill
- RECYCLE these materials into beautiful new products, and
- REPEAT this process over and over to build more sustainable communities and a healthier planet.
